The Managing Director of Nigerian  Ports Authority, Hadiza Bala Usman, has asserted that the authority is desirerous of prioritizing Environmental  Issues to an extent that it established a department  that oversees related factors concerning this subject, adding that  the organization is prepared to partner the committee towards the success of its functions.
Speaking during the visit of House of Representative Committee on Environment to the Organization Headquarters Lagos, The MD represented by the Executive Director Marine and Operations Dr.  Sekonte Davies said NPA operates on the International Waters and therefore observes strictly all international laws and regulations.
The MD also stressed the fact that NPA will do everything possible to remove all Impediments inhibiting vessels calling at the Nigerian Ports, in order to enhance our desire to be the leading Port in the sub region and indeed Africa.
Earlier in his address  the Chairman of the House of Representative  Committee on Environment Hon. Obinna Chidoka reiterated Nigeria's commitment at reducing global warming, climate change and the need for Nigeria to end gas flaring by the year 2030.
He also emphasized that due to the importance government attaches to issues concerning Environment, it is therefore sending a high powered delegation to an upcoming international environmental conference in Marrakesh Morocco. In his view, it's no longer news that environmental issues have taken global dimension.
Finally the Chairman stressed that the committee is interested in procedural Standalization of the organizations operations as this is expected to enhance safety, security and revenue generation.
